Description
What kind of wine it is
Antinori Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is a renowned dessert wine that embodies the character of the Trebbiano and Malvasia grape varieties. This Vin Santo del Chianti Classico stands out for its structured and pleasantly sweet sensory profile. On the nose, intense aromas of dried apricot, date and sultana emerge, enriched by hints of honey, candied citron and almond paste. On the palate, it is enveloping, offering a long finish where the natural sweetness is balanced by a lively acidity and excellent savouriness.
Where it comes from
This passito is born in the heart of the Tuscan region, within the historic area of Chianti Classico. The grapes come from three estates carefully selected by the Antinori winery, ensuring a faithful expression of the original environment. The dedication to provenance is reflected in a complex and harmonious tasting experience. Thanks to its remarkable aromatic persistence, this wine proves to be the ideal accompaniment for the end of a meal. It pairs perfectly with medium-aged blue cheeses, or served with classic cantucci and dry pastries.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a manual harvest, followed by the drying of the grapes on bamboo mats at the Tignanello estate. Once the ideal concentration is reached, gentle pressing is carried out to extract the must. Fermentation proceeds slowly in small oak barrels, known as caratelli, stopping spontaneously in a natural way. The wine rests in these containers for about three years, refining its sensory profile before proceeding with the final blend to harmonise the result.
History and Curiosities
The roots of Tuscan Vin Santo go back to the Middle Ages, a noble tradition that the Antinori family has honoured since 1987, the year their first vintage was released. The finest grapes, hand-picked from three estates in the Chianti Classico region, rest for three months on bamboo mats at the prestigious Tignanello estate. The artisanal magic comes to life through a slow fermentation and a patient maturation in small oak barrels for around three years. The result is an amber nectar of extraordinary elegance, perfect for enhancing the most special moments.

The Antinori family’s first encounter with wine dates back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Wine Merchants to make the best use of the family’s country properties in Valdarno, around Florence.
However, it was not until the 16th century that banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori made the wine from his estates famous in Italy and abroad, travelling from Lyons to Flanders, and from Spain to Algiers.
Wine was to remain the family’s passion and main business activity, so much so that in 1898 the "Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori" was created by brothers Lodovico and Piero, the sons of Marchese Niccolò – a direct descendent of that other Niccolò who purchased Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and poured his efforts into publicising Tuscan wines around the world and creating fine quality products. For 26 generations the Antinori family have continued to make history.
In 2023, at the beginning of February, Villa Antinori Toscana IGT 2019 was named the third wine in the world, the only Italian wine, in Wine Specator's Top 10 Values 2022: the list of the 10 wines that according to the American magazine represent world excellence in terms of value for money.
