Description
Cartagho from the Mandrarossa winery is part of a family of Sicilian wines typical of the Menfi area, in the province of Agrigento. A Nero d'Avola typical of extremely careful local production, it is classified as an ICG Sicilia DOC, a still red, balanced, smooth and with typical Sicilian aromas. The production area is characterized by the Mediterranean climate of the southern coast of Sicily, with prolonged periods of drought and the influence of the sea with its sea breezes capable of mitigating the severe heat of the territory. The strong insulation, the particularly dry climate and the presence of hills with an altitude of just over 150 meters above sea level favor the growth of grapes rich in tannins and particularly aromatic. Sicily's winemaking tradition has its roots in the times of Magna Graecia, where wine production was held in high regard. The entire terroir, entirely exposed to the southwest, is characterized by diverse microclimates and sharp temperature variations due to the interaction between the hills, the sea, and the arid climate. The medium-textured, sandy soil facilitates the cultivation of Nero d'Avola vines, enriching the wine's bouquet with distinct Mediterranean characteristics. Cartagho is obtained from maceration of the grapes at a controlled temperature for about ten days. It is then aged in barriques for a year before bottling. An elegant and refined wine, typical of a land, Sicily, capable of producing highly prized wines recognized throughout the world.
