Description

What kind of wine is it

The Crémant de Loire Brut from Langlois-Chateau is an elegant sparkling wine made using the Traditional Method, reflecting the freshness of the Loire Valley. This harmonious blend combines Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Grolleau. In the glass, it displays a brilliant straw yellow colour enlivened by fine and persistent bubbles. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of pineapple, pear and green apple, enriched by pleasant hints of brioche. On the palate, it is full-bodied, crisp and balanced, making it ideal for accompanying seafood starters and oysters.

Where does it come from

The grapes come mainly from the vineyards of Saumur, with select parcels from the areas of Anjou and Touraine. The terroir is characterised by complex soils of limestone, clay and schist, which are essential for imparting vibrant freshness and a distinctive flavour profile. Langlois-Chateau cultivates these lands by enhancing each individual plot to respect the environmental balance. This natural interaction ensures consistent quality, resulting in a well-defined aromatic expression that is deeply rooted in the region.

How is it produced

Production begins with a rigorous manual harvest, followed by swift pressing to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The must is carefully selected, using only the best fractions for fermentation. The secondary fermentation follows the Traditional Method, completed by four years of ageing on the lees, which gives the wine remarkable structure. This extended period in the cellar enriches the sensory profile with subtle vanilla notes, while the Brut style dosage ensures a dry, generous and persistent finish.

History and Curiosities

The Crémant de Loire Brut Vintage 2021 embodies the essence of the historic Langlois-Chateau house, founded in 1912 in Saumur. This noble cuvée, the result of meticulous manual harvesting, boasts a four-year maturation on the lees which enhances its generous persistence. The masterful blend of the freshness of Chenin Blanc, the structure of Chardonnay and the vinosity of Cabernet Franc faithfully reflects the characteristics of the original clay and limestone soils. A true excellence, awarded for its refinement by Decanter and Vinous.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1912
On August 1, 1912, the couple founded the family company Maison Langlois-Chateau at St-Hilaire-St-Florent, with the help of Baron de Bodman, owner of Château de St-Florent and the adjoining vineyard; the Baron would thus bring cellars, land, and buildings to the young firm which, also, bought the business of the former Maison Delandes, founded in 1885.

Langlois-Chateau specialized immediately in the production of "sparkling wines". Business started off weell, but was interrupted by World War I during which Edouard Langlois was killed on March 31, 1915. He was 42 years old and had been awarded the Croix de Guerre (Military Cross).
