Description
What kind of wine it is
La Rasina Brunello di Montalcino is an organic red wine that embodies the essence of Brunello di Montalcino. Made from Sangiovese grapes, it displays a garnet colour and a bouquet dominated by iris, black cherry and blackcurrant. The fruity profile is interwoven with balsamic hints of mint, liquorice and distinct notes of leather and pipe tobacco. On the palate, it is dry and warm, supported by extremely smooth tannins and a pleasant savouriness. The sip boasts an enveloping structure and a long finish, with a persistent fruity recall. Excellent as a meditation wine, it pairs superbly with game, robust meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This territorial expression comes to life on the north-eastern slope of the Montalcino hill. The vineyards of the La Rasina estate are situated at around three hundred and fifty metres above sea level, in a privileged panoramic position overlooking the Val d’Orcia park. This particular microclimate ensures an ideal habitat for the ripening of the grapes, while the rigorous sustainable agronomic management enhances the peculiarities of the soil. The fortunate combination of altitude and exposure gives the wine a balanced freshness and a masterful equilibrium oriented towards softness.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with a fifteen-day maceration on the skins, for optimal polyphenolic extraction. After an initial period in steel, the wine matures in small barrels for the first year. Ageing then continues in large capacity barrels for a further twelve months, thus ensuring the minimum two years of wood ageing required for Brunello di Montalcino. The entire process concludes with a long final maturation of about fifteen months, a crucial step to refine the tannic texture, stabilise the colour and fully integrate the broad organoleptic spectrum before release.
History and Curiosities
Located in an ancient farmhouse on the north-eastern slope of Montalcino, La Rasina is a historic family estate overlooking the splendid Val d’Orcia. Under the careful guidance of Marco Mantengoli, the estate combines modern innovation with a long-standing paternal tradition to enhance the pure Sangiovese grapes, whose name pays homage to Monte Giove. The excellent 2021 vintage, awarded an impressive 96 points by James Suckling, encapsulates the essence of vineyards cultivated at 350 metres above sea level, offering an organic Brunello di Montalcino with a powerful and enveloping structure.
