Description

The Rosso di Montepulciano Sabazio is produced on the Braccesca estate, an ancient farm of the Bracci counts, from which both its name and its coat of arms derive: an arm protected by armor and brandishing a sword. Its 340 hectares are now owned by the Antinori family, who have decided to make it an estate with two souls, a union between the tradition of Nobile di Montepulciano and the innovation and emergence of Syrah di Cortona. The cellar, completely underground, is Divided into two rooms used as a barrel cellar and a vat cellar, and equipped with cutting-edge technology that blends with traditional attention to allow the qualities of the past to adapt, evolve, and express themselves in the future.

Sabazio is the typical red that respects, in its freshness and flavor, the tradition of Montepulciano and Sangiovese with the addition of Merlot that gives it exuberance. Grown in the typical sandy-loam, rich, rocky soil of Montepulciano, the vines are harvested from the second half of September until mid-October. After destemming and crushing, the must is transferred to stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of no more than 28°C to avoid altering the aroma of the grapes. Vinification takes place in stainless steel vats and culminates with complete malolactic fermentation, lasting approximately four months before being bottled in the final weeks of spring of the year following the harvest.

This wine reflects the winemaking soul of the area and, in fact, bears the name of the monk Sabatino Lulli, known as "Sabazio," who in medieval times was one of the first to provide guidance for producing wines in the Montepulciano area.

Marchesi Antinori began investing in this area - one of the newest and most promising in Tuscany and all of Italy - in the early 1990s. At that time, Nobile di Montepulciano had just inaugurated its second Renaissance. But the wines of Montepulciano were, in fact, already famous then and long before that. Read more
