Description

What kind of wine it is

Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend is a red wine with a structured and elegant character. This blend combines Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot varieties. On the nose, it reveals a rich aromatic profile of raspberries, dark cherries and plums, enhanced by hints of cinnamon, cloves and mocha. On the palate, the soft tannins blend with a fresh acidity, finishing with a dry and persistent aftertaste with pleasant notes of chocolate.

Where it comes from

This red originates from South Africa, in the renowned Stellenbosch region, an area that provides ideal conditions for the aromatic ripening of the grapes. The Kanonkop winery chose the name Kadette to honour its historical heritage, elevating it as a symbol of strength and discipline. The adoption of this South African blend enhances the expressiveness of the cultivated varieties, offering a pure interpretation of the terroir. The sip reflects an excellent taste balance between the intensity of red fruit and a clear freshness.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with open-tank fermentation in concrete, accompanied by regular punch-downs to maximise the extraction of colour and aromas. After separating the must from the skins, malolactic fermentation takes place to give the wine greater roundness. The ageing period in French oak barrels from Nevers, used for the second and third time, imparts elegance and complexity. These cellar practices define a deep sensory profile, ensuring a velvety texture and perfect harmony between spices and juicy fruit.

History and Curiosities

Founded in Stellenbosch in 1910, the historic Kanonkop Estate produces wines of world-class excellence. The 2019 vintage impressed critics, earning 92 points from James Suckling, as well as praise from Wine Spectator and Robert Parker, cementing its well-deserved global reputation as an outstanding value choice.
