Description

The Rossese di Dolceacqua Galeae is a red DOC from Western Liguria. Produced in the municipality of Soldano in Val Verbone, from a pure Rossese grape, this cru recalls the territory in its name, declaring its intimate connection. Galeae is in fact the toponym of the locality where the grape is grown. The Ka Mancinè winery, a family tradition, has represented since 1998 the project of recovering the Mancinei family's ancient bond with viticulture. The name not only identifies the founder and his house, but also has a Saracen origin linked to the ancient use of the place as a deportation camp for Saracen prisoners captured during the Spanish campaign in the 12th century, from which galeae meaning galleys. The production philosophy of Rossese di Dolceacqua Galeae is to minimize intervention in the vineyard and in the vinification. Rossese, which received its full name in 1972, is likely of Hellenic origin, and cultivation has been rooted in the area since the 19th century, although its presence is certainly older. Cultivation takes place in a difficult terrain, a sloping hillside 400 meters above sea level, shaped like a natural amphitheater and nestled between the sea and the mountains. The soil is predominantly clayey-calcareous with disintegrated rocks, the exposure is full to the southeast and enjoys a mild and sheltered climate. The vineyard is traditionally trained as a bush vine, with high-density planting of vines. The harvest is late and the overripe grapes undergo a long fermentation on the skins, with a portion of the grapes vinified without destemming. Vinification and aging take place exclusively in steel tanks.

Fine on the nose, with hints of slightly ripe fruit, floral and slightly spicy. In the mouth, it is dry, warm, soft and discreetly structured.
