Description
What kind of wine it is
The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru by Hubert Lignier is a still red wine from Burgundy, with an elegant and defined profile. The bouquet reveals clear floral and black cherry aromas, complemented by a pronounced mineral note. On the palate, it is powerful and taut, supported by enveloping tannins that give the sip great length and persistence.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the renowned Charmes terroir, located at the foot of Chambertin Grand Cru and near Les Combottes. The vines sink their roots into a deep soil, which is thicker than that of the nearby Clos de la Roche and composed of clay, limestone, and sand. The higher clay content, compared to Mazoyères-Chambertin, imparts a marked mineral depth to the flavour.
How it is produced
The vineyard is managed without herbicides or insecticides, preserving the natural biological balance of the vine. This respectful approach results in a wine of great structure, which expresses itself best with proper aeration. One hour of decanting softens its youthful tension, allowing the well-coated tannins to fully open up during a contemplative tasting.
History and Curiosities
The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru by Hubert Lignier originates in the heart of Burgundy, in an exceptional terroir located right at the foot of the legendary Chambertin. Here, the vines sink their roots into deep soil composed of clay, limestone, and sand, cultivated with the utmost respect for nature, without the use of herbicides or insecticides. This soil, more clay-rich than the nearby Mazoyères-Chambertin, gives the wine mineral depth. The excellent 2021 vintage expresses all the refinement of the appellation, celebrated by Robert Parker's 94 points.
