Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Cascina Francia by Giacomo Conterno is a still red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes. In the glass, it reveals deep aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry, intertwined with notes of rose, violet, tobacco, mint, and coffee. On the palate, the sip displays a rigorous and precise structure, supported by well-extracted and robust tannins and an excellent acidic backbone. A pronounced salinity adds further depth to the flavour, leading the tasting towards an elegant and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
The original vineyard stretches across the territory of the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, located in the Langhe, a historically renowned area for Barolo production. In this specific area, the vines sink their roots into a limestone soil, a fundamental element that imparts the wine with its characteristic mineral and savoury profile. The region also benefits from a well-ventilated microclimate, essential for promoting a slow and even ripening of the grapes. These particular soil and climate conditions allow the grape variety to express its most authentic territorial identity.
How it is produced
Once perfectly ripe, the Nebbiolo bunches are harvested, crushed, and destemmed. The resulting must ferments in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, relying solely on the action of indigenous yeasts. During fermentation, three or four pump-overs are carried out daily in the open air. After malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes a long forty-eight month maturation in wooden barrels. The process concludes with a brief final rest before being released to the market.
