Dominated by the ancient tower and the small medieval village, southwest of Montalcino, Tenuta CastelGiocondo is located at an altitude of about 300 metres, an ideal terroir for producing Sangiovese.

The village of Castelgiocondo dominates from above the historic Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino, an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road from the sea to Siena. The property is one of the first four from which the production of Brunello di Montalcino began in 1800.

The historical importance of the estate is testified by the knight figure shown on Castelgiocondo wine labels, taken from a famous fresco by the Sienese painter Simone Martini. The artist painted Guidoriccio da Fogliano, commander of Siena's troops, who led the attack on the castle of Montemassi. A historical coincidence that saw the Frescobaldi family begin their centuries-long adventure in the world of wine at the same time as the knight's exploits.

Climate The harvest immediately proved to be particularly good, thanks to the favourable seasonal trend. The Spring months were characterised by temperate weather, with little rainfall and no thermal stress: this favoured a good phytosanitary condition of the grapes. At the end of May, there was a sudden drop in temperatures that did not cause any damage, but led to a slight slowdown in plant phenology and a higher percentage of unfertilised flowers. This resulted in more sparse and therefore healthier bunches. In July, temperatures were high, while August was cool, with moderate rainfall, a varied temperature regime guaranteeing very interesting aromatic characteristics, rich in intensity and complex. The light Summer rains provided the plants with a good water supply to cope with veraison (the change of colour). The sunny, cool and dry days of September and October were particularly favourable for ensuring that the grapes had all the necessary characteristics to produce wines of high quality and great structure.
