Description
What kind of wine it is
Campo al Mare Bolgheri Rosso is a Tuscan wine by Folonari, created from a skilful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This expression of the region stands out for its full-bodied and structured character, offering a fresh drinkability even in its youth, while maintaining an excellent aptitude for ageing. The aromatic profile opens with intense notes and a vibrant balsamic streak, followed by hints of blackcurrant and blackberry. On the palate, it is enveloping, supported by soft tannins and a concentration that leads to a long and elegant finish.
Where it comes from
This blend originates from the vineyards of Bolgheri Rosso, an area of Tuscany where the coastal Mediterranean climate plays a decisive role. The influence of the sea encourages optimal ripening, ensuring a balance between freshness and intensity. The vine roots delve into soils rich in clay and sand, a geological matrix that gives the wine a deep dark hue and imparts a subtle mineral trace on the palate. The meticulous management of the rows allows the terroir to fully express its vocation, resulting in concentrated and well-defined reds.
How it is produced
The processing of the grapes aims to outline a harmonious and precise profile. Fermentation in stainless steel is accompanied by a long maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature, essential for extracting colour and structural solidity. The wine then matures for about twelve months in French oak barrels, a targeted step that enriches the bouquet with notes of cedar and light spices without ever overpowering the fruit. The process concludes with a period of rest in the bottle, a necessary phase to integrate the various components and define a velvety and enveloping sip.

In 1912, Italo Folonari, Ambrogio Folonari's grandfather, with his brother Francesco, bought the Ruffino winery, known at the time for its characteristically flask-packed Chianti.
After the Second World War, some profound changes took place in Italy in terms of economic development and rising living standards. This trend also influenced the wine sector, where the Folonari family, and Ambrogio in particular, were among the first to promote this trend by producing new, high-quality wines that helped create the 'new frontier' of Italian wine. At the end of the 1960s, the family sold the company 'Fratelli Folonari', which was positioned in the table wine segment, and began to concentrate on bottled wines at origin, thanks also to the acquisition of the famous Tenuta di Nozzole near Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico region. At the same time, they bought other estates in Tuscany with the aim of producing fine wines, including 'Cabreo' conceived by Ambrogio in the 1980s.
In 2000, Ambrogio left Ruffino and the rest of the family and created with his son the: "Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute", holding some of the best agricultural properties. This gave rise to a group of companies located in areas with the highest wine-growing vocation in Tuscany. Read more
