Description
What kind of wine it is
Mareneve is a still white wine crafted by Federico Graziani, an authentic expression of the Sicilian lands. This unique blend is born from the meeting of local grape varieties such as Carricante and Grecanico with those typical of colder climates, including Riesling Renano, Gewürztraminer, and Chenin Blanc. On the nose, it develops delicate aromas of rose and broom, enriched by ash notes, bergamot, and grapefruit. On the palate, it presents an initial aromatic softness that quickly evolves into a vertical and vibrant character, defined by sharp acidity and a persistent marine savouriness.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in a small terraced plot in Contrada Nave, located on the north-western slope of Mount Etna. In this context of heroic viticulture, the vines are trained as bush vines at around 1,200 metres above sea level, facing a cold climate and extreme conditions. The primordial high-altitude volcanic soil, permeated with vibrant mineral energy, imparts a distinctive mark to the sensory profile. This rigorous combination of altitude and volcanic matrix shapes the identity of the sip, bringing to the glass the freshness of snow typical of these heights.
How it is produced
The production process aims to reflect the taut and elegant essence of the blend. The technique involves fermentation in stainless steel, avoiding malolactic fermentation to preserve the acidity and definition of the aromas. Subsequently, the wine matures for 18 months on fine lees, gaining depth of flavour without losing its dry profile, before resting for at least 6 months in the bottle. This technical approach ensures a long, persistent finish, ideal for pairing with sushi and shellfish or for balancing soft cheeses and fried fish.
History and Curiosities
Born from the bold vision of Federico Graziani, Mareneve embodies the extreme essence of heroic viticulture on Etna. Planted in the early 2000s at an altitude of 1,200 metres in Contrada Nave, the small terraced bush-trained vineyard experiments with cold-climate grape varieties on a primordial high-altitude volcanic soil. This crystalline alchemy rests for 18 months on fine lees and 6 months in the bottle. In a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, a lively and ever-changing wine is born, where the vibrant freshness of snow merges with a persistent marine salinity.
