Description
What kind of wine it is
The Famille Hugel Pinot Gris Classic faithfully expresses the character of Pinot Grigio. Distinguished by a bright golden yellow colour, it offers a well-defined bouquet of melon, Golden apple, ripe apricot, acacia honey and orange blossom. On the palate, it reveals a fleshy structure, perfectly balanced by a lively freshness. The sip is juicy and satisfying, with an elegant and slightly spicy finish, ideal for pairing with spicy Asian dishes, rich shellfish and fresh cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in the heart of Alsace, from thirty-year-old vines located between the villages of Riquewihr and Colmar. The limestone and clay soils give this white wine great aromatic intensity and a pronounced flavour profile. The Famille Hugel winery, active since 1639, manages its vineyards with extreme care to ensure healthy, high-quality grapes. The deep connection with the Alsatian terroir translates into a glass with a broad profile, capable of conveying the unique characteristics of the region with balance.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous and selective manual harvest. The grapes reach the presses solely by gravity, undergoing gentle pressing to extract only the free-run juice. After settling, the must ferments at a controlled temperature in barrels or tanks. During the winter, natural clarification occurs through delicate racking. This is followed by a light spring filtration and maturation in barrels or tanks, concluded by a final period of rest in the property's underground cellars.
History and Curiosities
Produced by the Famille Hugel, active in Riquewihr since 1639, this Pinot Gris Classic 2023 celebrates the purest tradition of the Alsace AOC. The grapes come from thirty-year-old vineyards and are hand-picked, then processed using gravity, without the use of pumps, in order to extract only the juice from the first pressing. After meticulous fermentation at a controlled temperature and a slow maturation, the wine achieves perfect balance. A harmonious white that expresses the artisanal elegance of a unique region.

In 1639, he was made an honorary town citizen and soon took charge of the powerful winegrowers' guild.
In 1672, his son built a beautiful house in the Rue des Cordiers, and above the door was carved the family coat of arms, which was the origin of the company logo still in use today.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Hugel family earned an enviable reputation for their wine-making skills and the particular way they cultivated their vineyards. Then, in 1902, Frédéric Emile Hugel settled on the premises in the centre of Riquewihr.
After 1918, many far-sighted and courageous winegrowers, including Frédéric Emile Hugel, took steps to save the Alsace vineyards. This true pioneer dedicated his entire life to promoting high-quality wines from noble grape varieties. His son Jean continued this crusade. With his perseverance and hard work, he proved that Alsace wines deserved their place among the best wines in the world.
His three sons, Georges, Jean and André, gained official recognition for Alsace 'Vendange Tardive' and 'Sélection de Grains Nobles' wines. Read more
