Description

What kind of wine is it

Ettore Germano Alta Langa Extra Brut is a Piedmontese Traditional Method sparkling wine created from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In the glass, it displays an intense straw yellow colour, enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet reveals clear aromas of bread crust and yeast, accompanied by hints of dried fruit and delicate floral nuances. On the palate, it offers a full and rich entry, balanced by fresh acidity and a creamy mousse. The finish perfectly cleanses the palate, ensuring a long aromatic persistence.

Where does it come from

This sparkling wine originates from Alta Langa, an area in Piedmont historically renowned for producing excellent sparkling wines. Ettore Germano’s vineyards are situated at an altitude above five hundred metres, with ideal exposures that ensure regular ripening of the grapes and excellent acidity retention. The vines take root in calcareous and stony soils of medium texture, key factors in giving the wine a pronounced gustatory tension. This unique terroir allows for the production of sparkling bases with perfect balance.

How is it produced

The grapes are hand-harvested at the beginning of September and whole bunches are pressed to extract only the free-run juice. After the first fermentation at low temperature, the wine matures on the lees with gentle bâtonnage. In spring, the second fermentation is initiated according to the strict Traditional Method, with a slow maturation of at least thirty months. At disgorgement, the topping up is done with the same sparkling wine, thus preserving the purity and dryness of the Extra Brut profile.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1856, the historic Piedmontese winery presents the Alta Langa DOCG Extra Brut 2021, a refined Classic Method sparkling wine made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown at high altitude. After pressing the whole bunches and ageing for at least 30 months on the lees, the sparkling wine is topped up with the same wine to preserve the authenticity of the calcareous terroir. Characterised by an intense straw yellow colour, it boasts a fine and persistent perlage that offers a rich and creamy sip, enhanced by fragrant notes of bread crust, dried fruit and delicate floral aromas.
