Description
What kind of wine it is
Carte d’Or Brut by Drappier is a Champagne of great structure, produced according to the Traditional Method. The result of a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, it enhances the qualities of black grapes vinified as white. In the glass, it displays a golden hue enriched with copper highlights. The bouquet is refined, characterised by aromas of wild berries and citrus hints. On the palate, it expresses volume, revealing notes of dried and ripe fruit that fade into a fresh finish with subtle spicy nuances. The absence of filtration preserves the wine’s integrity and richness.
Where it comes from
This cuvée originates in the heart of Champagne, in the vineyards surrounding Urville. Here, the vine roots delve into limestone soil, essential for imparting a vibrant mineral character to the grapes. The natural vocation of these soils allows Pinot Noir to express elegance and complexity. The production reflects Drappier’s commitment to the environment, with a zero-emission cycle and certified management for carbon neutrality, ensuring the utmost respect for the local ecosystem.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with gentle pressing to extract only the first-press musts. To prevent oxidation, pumping is replaced by gravity racking and natural decantation. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature for about two weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation. A key stage is the ageing of part of the wines in oak barrels for one year, enriching the blend’s structure. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a long five-year maturation in bottle, achieving extraordinary expressive maturity.
History and Curiosities
Carte d’Or Brut embodies the heritage of the Drappier family, winemakers in Urville since 1808. This prestigious cuvée enhances the traditional method, created from black grapes vinified as white and using only first-press musts. A sustainable vision guides its zero-emission production, characterised by the absence of filtration and a minimal sulphite content. Five years of bottle ageing forge its complex elegance, awarded 96 points by Wine Spectator, for a sip that expresses all the authenticity of Champagne’s chalky terroir.

Seven centuries later (in 1808), the Drappier family estate was established around the magnificently preserved medieval Abbey. Today, it is managed by Michel Drappier and is used to store and age the exceptional wines he produces.
We planted our vineyard in Urville, the terroir that welcomed the Pinot Noir grape variety that now "runs in our veins" and we manage it according to organic and natural practices.
Our vineyards are like family archives that perpetuate our history. We grow heirloom grape varieties that deserve to be remembered: Fromenteau, Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Blanc Vrai. While many seek to achieve sophisticated excellence, we prefer natural and authentic qualities. We also highlight the many facets of our terroirs through our vinification techniques: our low sugar dosage and moderate use of sulfites – especially in the production of Drappier Brut Nature Sans Soufre.
