Description

What kind of wine it is

The Morey-Saint-Denis Rouge 1er Cru La Riotte by Hubert Lignier is a still red wine of great elegance. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, this Premier Cru from Burgundy reveals a ruby red colour in the glass and intense aromas of red fruits, accompanied by hints of liquorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, generous and supported by a good acidity. Pleasant and ready to drink even when young, it reaches its full potential if decanted for about an hour.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Morey-Saint-Denis area, in the heart of Burgundy. The grapes come from the La Riotte parcel, situated on a slope at the foot of Clos Saint-Denis. The roots of the old vines delve into clay-limestone soils rich in small stones. This specific geological composition ensures a clear territorial identity, giving the wine precise flavours and a solid structural balance.

How it is produced

Hubert Lignier cultivates his vineyards without the use of herbicides or insecticides. The longevity of the plants guarantees balanced yields and a pronounced aromatic concentration. The result is a wine of impeccable stylistic consistency, highly appreciated by international critics, with excellent reviews in Decanter and Robert Parker. This Premier Cru also has significant cellaring potential, able to evolve positively for many years after bottling.

History and Curiosities

Originating from the La Riotte plot, this Premier Cru from Morey-Saint-Denis comes from old vines planted in 1959 on the gentle slopes at the foot of Clos Saint-Denis. Hubert Lignier has been cultivating these rows without the use of herbicides or insecticides since the 1990s, thus preserving a precious clay-limestone soil rich in small stones. The meticulous work in the vineyard gives rise to a label praised by critics: an exceptional Pinot Noir that combines deep respect for the Burgundy terroir with artisanal mastery highly valued by collectors.

From this winery
The duet father and son Hubert and Laurent Lignier manage 9 hectares and make 24 wines (Bourgogne, village, premier and grand cru appellations). Our vineyards are ploughed sinced 1990s, excluding weedkiller and insecticides. Our "climates" and great terroirs’ soils are firmly respected in order to favour microorganism and therefore the essential balance for the vine’s growth. Since 2011, we use organic protective treatments. Read more
