Description

What type of wine it is

The Etna Rosso from the Cuore di Marchesa winery is a still red wine with a Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) that embodies the authentic Sicilian volcanic character, made from Nerello Mascalese grapes. The sensory profile opens with an enveloping fruity bouquet, while on the palate it reveals a bold and elegant sip, distinguished by a marked minerality in which the influence of the wood is harmoniously subtle. The fermentation process takes place between steel tanks and cocciopesto amphorae, a choice aimed at preserving the precision and aromatic clarity of the fruit.

Where it comes from

This wine is born in Castiglione di Sicilia, in the evocative setting of Mount Etna, a territory with a profound viticultural vocation. The Cuore di Marchesa winery enhances this specific geographical area through a rigorous artisanal production dedicated to district wines, using exclusively native grapes. The volcanic origin is clearly reflected in the glass through a production style that favours clean flavours and a clear mineral imprint, maintaining a deep connection with the identity of the Sicilian soil.

How it is produced

The grapes are selected through careful manual harvesting, before proceeding to fermentation divided between steel tanks and amphorae. The maturation phase involves a long ageing of at least fifteen months in wooden barrels, followed by further evolution that skilfully combines the use of amphora, steel and wood in equal parts. This refined production method allows the structure of the wine to be perfectly integrated. Decanting for an hour before serving is recommended to fully appreciate its gustatory complexity.

History and Trivia

This Etna Rosso is born from the passion of Piero Di Giovanni, founder of the Cuore di Marchesa winery, for district (contrada) wines. A unique feature of this artisanal production is that it is limited to just 2,500 numbered bottles. Furthermore, the bottle is distinguished by the burgundy-coloured sealing wax on the neck and a cream-coloured label featuring an artistic depiction of two figures and a landscape.

Humility, knowledge, exploration: these are the cornerstones of the production philosophy of Piero Di Giovanni, founder of Cantina Cuore di Marchesa which, in Castiglione di
Sicily, on the slopes of Mount Etna, produces Etna Doc.

He treats his vineyards according to the rhythms of nature, following a green philosophy based on copper and sulphur, enriching the soil with the sowing of field beans and lupin.

A good oenologist lets the wine speak above all of its territory, explores its thousand faces, follows its development, growth, change. This is how Piero, together with his daughter, loves to produce wine: his, he likes to remind us, are 'contrada' wines, made exclusively from indigenous grapes, harvested by hand.

A production, that of Cuore di Marchesa, that will never reach large numbers, but will always be of great quality.
