Description
What kind of wine it is
Costa delle Parracine by Feudi di San Gregorio is a still white wine that represents an authentic expression of Ischia, made exclusively from Biancolella grapes. In the glass, it displays a bright straw yellow colour, introducing a fragrant and well-defined aromatic profile. On the nose, inviting scents of white fruit, wild fennel, lemon blossom and citrus notes emerge, outlining a fresh and clean bouquet. On the palate, it reveals a soft texture, supported by a well-balanced savouriness and clear mineral hints, offering a harmonious and measured sip.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the island of Ischia, specifically in the municipality of Forio, where the vineyards are cultivated at around three hundred metres above sea level. The vines sink their roots into volcanic soils, characterised by the presence of the famous green tuff of Mount Epomeo, a geological element that gives the wine a distinctive mineral imprint. The proximity to the sea is fundamental for the aromatic development of the Biancolella grape, enhancing its citrus and fruity components. The estate also boasts an evocative historic cellar dating back to the late nineteenth century, entirely carved into the tuff rock, bearing witness to the deep connection with the land.
How it is produced
The vinification process is aimed at enhancing the precision of the aromas and the varietal freshness. The grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature to ensure maximum expressive clarity. Subsequently, the wine matures for about four months in steel tanks with constant lees ageing, a technique that enriches its structure and balances its mineral character. Before being released on the market, the wine completes its journey with a rest in the bottle of at least one month, thus stabilising a linear and harmonious flavour profile.
History and Curiosities
Originating from Forio, on the island of Ischia, Costa delle Parracine is produced from four hectares of vineyards overlooking the sea. This exceptional wine matures in an evocative cellar dating back to 1878, carved into the green tuff of Mount Epomeo. Showcasing the native Biancolella grape variety, historically introduced by the Greeks, the renowned winery Feudi di San Gregorio masterfully combines the revival of local volcanic viticulture with a commitment to valuable cultural and artistic initiatives.
