Description
What kind of wine it is
Colli Tortonesi Timorasso Bricco San Michele by Claudio Mariotto is a still white wine with a warm and enveloping sip. Made from Timorasso grapes, it faithfully expresses the authentic vocation of the Piedmontese soils within the Colli Tortonesi area. In the glass, it displays a clear golden yellow colour of medium intensity, a prelude to a floral and fruity profile of great definition. The long ageing process enriches its structure, allowing the tasting to finish with intriguing flint notes and hints of chamomile that give it a pronounced mineral character.
Where it comes from
The vines grow luxuriantly in the Piedmont region, on hills between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. The vineyards are located close to the Apennines with a view over the Po Valley and benefit from the influence of sea breezes, about sixty kilometres away as the crow flies. The interaction between this breezy microclimate and the calcareous-clay soils gives the wine remarkable gustatory tension. The agricultural management follows the principles of traditional farming, opting for cultivation without herbicides or chemical fertilisers and adopting manual pruning and leaf thinning practices that respect the vegetative balance of the plants.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place towards the end of September, bringing grapes to the cellar for a gentle and slow pressing. The vinification process involves spontaneous fermentation at a controlled temperature, enhancing the fundamental role of indigenous yeasts in defining the aromatic identity of the must. Maturation continues for a year in steel tanks on the fine lees, accompanied by light bâtonnage that gives greater texture to the palate. Before reaching the market, the wine rests for a further twelve months in bottle, completing a process that ensures stability and remarkable longevity.
History and Curiosities
The Colli Tortonesi Timorasso Bricco San Michele 2024 embodies the legacy of the Claudio Mariotto winery, a historic establishment active since 1920. Produced from grapes grown on calcareous-clay soils and influenced by sea breezes, this pure Timorasso ferments with indigenous yeasts and matures for a year on fine lees in steel, followed by twelve months of bottle ageing. This independent winemaker creates a wine with a floral and fruity profile, featuring elegant flint and chamomile notes, with a splendid evolution.

Our vineyards enjoy a favourable microclimate as they are located close to the Apennines overlooking the Po Valley and influenced by the proximity of the sea, which is only 60 km away as the crow flies. We define our method of cultivation as common sense agriculture, without the use of pesticides, with pruning and leafing that respects the vines.
Claudio Mariotto in the early 1990s, together with a few other local winegrowers, believed in an abandoned indigenous vine like Timorasso to produce a great Piedmontese white wine for ageing.
Thanks to his daily life in contact with the vineyard, Claudio decided to give value to his work by bottling the wine he produced. Read more
