Description
What kind of wine it is
Claudio Mariotto Colli Tortonesi Freisa Braghe is a still red wine that embodies the essence of the Piedmont region through the Freisa grape variety. Produced in the Colli Tortonesi area, it displays a deep red colour, enriched with elegant garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a refined and delicate aromatic profile, characterised by clear notes of rose, morello cherry and raspberry, which can develop into pleasant musky nuances over time. On the palate, it offers a fresh and lively sip, maintaining perfect smoothness and vibrant gustatory energy.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from vineyards located between the municipalities of Vho and Sarezzano, at an altitude between 250 and 300 metres. The vines thrive on soils with a strong calcareous-clay component, which gives the wine a taut and precise flavour profile. The production area benefits from a favourable microclimate, influenced by the proximity of the Apennines, the Po Valley and the sea. Cultivation follows the strict philosophy of the independent winemaker, excluding the use of chemical fertilisers or herbicides in favour of careful Guyot training.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October. In the winery, vinification begins with gentle destemming, followed by skin maceration for four or five days. Ageing continues with a period of at least six months in stainless steel tanks and the same length of time in the bottle, preserving the aromatic clarity intact. Ideal if served at 14-16 °C after adequate aeration, it pairs excellently with structured dishes such as red meats, pork-based recipes, game and cheeses, and shows potential for evolution for up to ten years.
History and Curiosities
Since 1920, the Claudio Mariotto family has been devotedly cultivating the vineyards of the Colli Tortonesi DOC. Located between Vho and Sarezzano, at an altitude of 250-300 metres, the vines thrive on calcareous-clay soils, benefiting from a privileged microclimate. A proud independent winemaker, Claudio practises virtuous agriculture that excludes the use of chemical fertilisers and herbicides. After gentle pressing, maturation in steel tanks enhances freshness and fruity aromas, ensuring longevity of up to ten years.

Our vineyards enjoy a favourable microclimate as they are located close to the Apennines overlooking the Po Valley and influenced by the proximity of the sea, which is only 60 km away as the crow flies. We define our method of cultivation as common sense agriculture, without the use of pesticides, with pruning and leafing that respects the vines.
Claudio Mariotto in the early 1990s, together with a few other local winegrowers, believed in an abandoned indigenous vine like Timorasso to produce a great Piedmontese white wine for ageing.
Thanks to his daily life in contact with the vineyard, Claudio decided to give value to his work by bottling the wine he produced. Read more
