Description
What kind of spirit is this?
Grappa Chianti Rufina Nipozzano from Frescobaldi is a sophisticated Italian spirit, distilled from the fermented pomace of grapes grown in Chianti Rufina. This clear and transparent grappa reveals an elegant, aromatic bouquet. On the palate, it offers a harmonious balance of warmth and distinct softness, underpinned by a firm structure. With an alcohol by volume of 42%, it provides a long, clean finish and is best served as a digestif, ideally chilled at 8–10°C, alongside traditional dark chocolate and panforte.
Where it comes from
The raw material originates from the Nipozzano estate, situated in the prestigious Chianti Rufina area of Tuscany. In this mid-hill landscape, vines thrive in arid, stony soils rich in clay and limestone. This environment ensures optimal ripening, yielding crisp and clean pomace. Using grape marc from this precise location guarantees a coherent and recognisable sensory profile. Consequently, the resulting grappa authentically reflects its Tuscan provenance, delivering a remarkably clean character.
History and Curiosities
Born in the heart of Tuscany at the historic Castello Nipozzano estate, this grappa by Frescobaldi expresses the quintessence of the region’s winemaking tradition.

Castello Nipozzano is, in fact, the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family, also thanks to the surrounding territory, as the name itself recounts: according to popular tradition, Nipozzano means in fact "without a well', indicating that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for growing vines.
The first 'reviews' on the quality of Nipozzano wine date back to the Renaissance, when even the great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to buy this wine. Castello Nipozzano, in fact, means Tuscan wine par excellence, Chianti Classico in particular, thanks to a regional winemaking tradition followed with constancy and commitment, without ever forgetting the desire to innovation.
The true history of Tuscany that has excelled the art of wine-making for thousands of years. A testimony of this is the fact that Marquises Frescobaldi already in 1855 invested 1,000 silver florins to begin cultivating varieties then unknown in Tuscany, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: after more than a century, the care of these magnificent vines enabled the production of the estate's great wine, Mormoreto.
