Description
What kind of wine it is
The Dolcetto d’Alba by Cascina Fontana is a still, dry red wine, made from Dolcetto grapes. In the glass, it displays a vibrant ruby red colour, enhanced by bright purple highlights. The aromatic profile is direct and fragrant, characterised by a bouquet reminiscent of plum and fresh wild berries. On the palate, it reveals itself as a highly drinkable wine, where the liveliness of the fruit is balanced by a light tannin and a pleasantly savoury finish. Its straightforward nature makes it perfect for everyday meals, expressing a youthful character that pairs beautifully with cured meats and starters or typical homemade dishes.
Where it comes from
This red wine comes to life in the evocative Piedmontese territory of the Langhe, with deep roots in the locality of Perno di Monforte d’Alba. Here, Cascina Fontana has cultivated its passion for viticulture for six generations, dedicating meticulous care to the vineyards. The hillside position of the vineyards gives the grapes a marked freshness, shaping the vibrant character of this wine, considered the earliest ripening of the estate. A profound connection with the land is also reflected in local traditions: traditionally, this Dolcetto d’Alba is enjoyed to celebrate the end of the harvest, perhaps accompanied by the classic Piedmontese bagna cauda.
How it is produced
Production begins with the grape harvest in September, followed by fermentation in vats to preserve the complete integrity of the fruit. The approach in the cellar is essential and artisanal: the wine is vinified without filtration and without the use of added fining agents. The entire maturation cycle in stainless steel ensures the preservation of the natural aromatic intensity, avoiding alterations to the varietal profile. Designed to be enjoyed in its youth, this red offers its fullest expression of vitality if served slightly chilled in the summer months, preferably after an hour of decanting.
History and Curiosities
On the enchanting hills of the Langhe, the Fontana family has passed down their passion for Dolcetto d’Alba DOC for six generations. Considered the estate’s earliest wine, it exudes a pronounced vitality, enhanced by artisanal vinification without filtration and free from clarifying agents. According to local tradition, in autumn it is enjoyed freshly drawn from the vat to celebrate the harvest, perhaps paired with the typical bagna cauda. Maturation in stainless steel preserves its intense fruity aromas, with a lively savoury finish.
