Description
What kind of wine it is
Etna Bianco Villa dei Baroni, produced by Carranco, is a still white wine that represents an authentic expression of Carricante. To the eye, it displays a bright straw yellow colour with subtle greenish highlights. The bouquet is rich with aromas of green apple, grapefruit and ripe white peach, blending with notes of aromatic herbs and white flowers such as hawthorn. On the palate, it is enveloping, supported by lively acidity and a pronounced minerality, typical of Etna Bianco. Its vibrant savouriness makes it perfect for pairing with fish dishes, poultry, vegetarian cuisine and various types of cheese.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Sicily, in Contrada Carranco in Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. The vines are grown at around five hundred metres above sea level on sandy volcanic soils, rich in minerals. The particular geological composition of the land, naturally resistant to phylloxera, gives great vitality to the historic vineyards, which are between fifty and sixty years old. The agricultural management is based on sustainable practices, with the aim of preserving the local ecosystem and offering a faithful and powerful interpretation of the Sicilian territory.
How it is produced
Production begins with the harvest at the end of September, when the grapes reach optimal ripeness. In the winery, the grapes ferment in steel and cement tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve the aromatic purity and integrity of the fruit. The wine then undergoes a period of maturation in cement lasting six or seven months in contact with the fine lees. This process gives structure and breadth to the palate, while maintaining the purity of the grape variety. The result is an elegant and linear wine, with the tension needed to withstand long ageing in the bottle.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 2017 from the meeting between Borgogno and Tornatore, Carranco combines solid oenological experience with authentic Etnean roots. Villa dei Baroni is produced in Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of the volcano. On the estate, historic vineyards of 50-60 years are cultivated using the spur-pruned cordon method on sandy volcanic soils, rich in minerals and naturally resistant to phylloxera. Managed with traditional and sustainable methods, the rows enhance the territory up to the harvest at the end of September, ensuring a pure and elegant expression.

Carranco was born from the meeting of Borgogno and Tornatore, a blend of history, experience, and authentic Ethnean roots.
The vineyards are located on the volcano's northern flank, and only traditional methods of vinification are used. It only grows native vines, primarily Nerello Mescalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Carricante, which are the purest expressions of Etna, and it is from the volcanic soils that they draw the power, strength, and explosiveness of each eruption.
