Description
What kind of wine it is
Bolgheri Rosso Stupore by Campo alle Comete is an enveloping Tuscan red wine. This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc displays a deep ruby colour. The bouquet combines notes of plum and cherry with hints of cocoa and eucalyptus. On the palate, it offers a medium-full body, delivering a fresh and balanced sip. The structure is supported by mature tannins, with a long, savoury, spicy and balsamic finish.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri Rosso. The vineyards are rooted in soils composed of Eocene sand, limestone and clay, a geological composition that imparts great expressive clarity. The proximity to the coast and the influence of the Colline Metallifere create an ideal microclimate, tempered by constant sea breezes. These conditions, together with temperature variations, ensure a slow and optimal ripening of the grapes, infusing the glass with the energy of the Livorno coastal landscape.
How it is produced
Production begins with meticulous manual harvesting of the grapes. To enhance each grape variety, vinification takes place separately, with maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks for about three weeks. Afterwards, the wine rests in medium-toast French oak barrels for a period of between ten and twelve months, acquiring roundness and complexity. After blending, a final maturation of six months completes the process, fully harmonising the wine's structure.
History and Curiosities
Born in the heart of Castagneto Carducci, Stupore Bolgheri Rosso DOC represents Feudi di San Gregorio's first Tuscan venture, following the acquisition of the Guicciardini Strozzi estate. Named after a historic place name, the estate features an evocative circular cellar inspired by Etruscan design. This elegant red wine combines the region's typical grape varieties, nurtured by the sea breezes of the Tyrrhenian on sandy and calcareous soils, bringing to the glass all the energy and complex winemaking tradition of the captivating Livorno coast.
