Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche is a red wine of extraordinary character that expresses the most authentic essence of Nebbiolo. Characterised by a radiant garnet colour, it reveals on the nose a generous bouquet with hints of violet and rose, enriched by woodland notes of resin, roots and berries. Aromas of leather, mentholated tobacco and a pronounced ferrous minerality emerge in succession. On the palate, it displays refined elegance, balancing savouriness, freshness and warmth in a harmonious interplay. This solid structure pairs perfectly with agnolotti del plin, braised meats, strongly flavoured game and very mature hard cheeses.

Where it comes from

This Piedmontese red originates in the heart of the Barolo region, coming from the specific Falletto vineyard plot located in Serralunga d’Alba. Bruno Giacosa tends prestigious plots situated between the municipalities of Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco. The rigorous vineyard management yields a wine with an unmistakable territorial identity, evident in the definition of the sip and in a finish of remarkable depth. The peculiarities of the soil give the wine an imposing structure, ensuring an ageing potential capable of extending for many years, evolving with great elegance.

How it is produced

Vinification takes place in steel vats, ensuring the utmost expression and aromatic purity of the fruit. The maturation process involves a long ageing of thirty-two months in large barrels, a fundamental step for the structural evolution of the wine. This is followed by a further thirty months of rest in glass to refine the flavour profile before release to the market. Given the wine’s complex texture, it is recommended to decant for at least an hour and serve at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C to fully appreciate its broad sensory profile.

History and Curiosities

The Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche 2022 embodies the legacy of Bruno Giacosa, a historic winery founded in 1900. Under the guidance of oenologist Dante Scaglione, the vinification of the pure Nebbiolo takes place in steel. This is followed by maturation in large casks for 32 months and a further 30 months in bottle. This gives the Piedmontese DOCG an elegant structure and a longevity of up to 25 years.

The story starts in a simple way, with the native varietals of the Langa and Roero regions and vineyards cultivated with loving care. It continues with pure, meticulous vinification, with ageing in grand oak barrels and with unforgettable Reserves. But it also includes, naturally enough, the choice not to bottle those mediocre vintages deemed unworthy of vinification.

Bruno’s art encompasses passion and clear judgement but, above all, the utmost respect for his product, its admirers and for the beautiful countryside where he and his family were born and raised.

The Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery comprises twenty hectares of vineyards within the Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco areas. The vine growing and wine making processes are followed through with care from beginning to end, culminating with vinification and ageing within our cellars in Neive.
Some of our wine is produced with grapes grown by those farmers who have always worked our winery and whose prestigious vineyards truly deserve the ‘Bruno Giacosa’ label.
