Description
The Pinot Nero Riserva from Brunnenhof is produced on the family-run estate located in Mazzone in the municipality of Egna. The Rottensteiner family, current owners of the estate, has produced only wines that reflect their love for the land and pure tradition since the first harvest. The quality of the wines comes from attention both in the vineyard, where eco-sustainability reigns supreme, while in the cellar, respect for the fruit and its flavors reigns supreme, without implementing invasive practices, leaving the wine free to evolve, enhancing the peculiarities of the grapes and gaining unique characteristics. The lands are located in the so-called Alto Adige Grand Cru of Pinot Noir, and this particular type of grape is also the focus of the Rottensteiner.
The Pinot Noir Riserva is an excellence of the territory and the winery, the cultivation of these grapes exceeds a century of history and finds ideal conditions for ripening. The vineyards grow on a sandy soil consisting mainly of clay and lime and with excellent exposure to sunlight. The harvest of these black grapes is done strictly by hand and after a careful selection of the grapes, which are fermented in large wooden vats in contact with the lees for about 2 weeks. Periodic punching down is performed to extract the maximum aroma and color. After complete alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is divided into 500-liter oak barrels where it rests for a year, and subsequently for another 8/10 months in large oak barrels. Once bottled, the wine rests for another year before being released for sale, where it stabilizes and consolidates its intense aroma and pulpiness, which concludes with a pleasant tannin.

The area is considered the Grand-Cru of the Blauburgunder and indeed it is on the Blauburgunder that our estate focuses its work. But not exclusively, ithe Blauburgunder is joined by Lagrein, Gewürztraminer, Manzoni Bianco, Goldmuskateller and also Blaugurgunder Rosé.
Mazzon provides the perfect conditions for Blauburgunder: the soil a mixture of sand and clay with a high concentration of chalk, west facing, the afternoon sun, the fresh Ora wind from Lake Garda and the cool nights. Areas sheltered from the wind are perfect for the Gewürztraminer. In the higher areas above Vill where the earth is a mixture of sand, stones and gravel, the scree of the Trudener river, thrive the Manzoni Bianco and, ever since1921, the grapes for our Lagrein.
In order to maintain the vitality and unmistakeable character of our vineyards we work according to ecological standards. The more life and fullness there is in the vines, the more can be found later in the wine. The cellar is a place of tranquillity, restraint and patience. Through a form of ācontrolled inactivityā we draw out the character of the grapes thus ensuring that, at the end of the wine year, every bottle bears the distinctive signature of Brunnenhof Mazzon.
