Description
Albarossa is undoubtedly one of the flagship wines of Piedmontese production. The Albarossa grape is relatively young, having been created in 1938 by Piedmontese winemaker Giovanni Dalmasso, who crossed Nebbiolo and Barbera to create a further tribute to his homeland. The Bricco dei Guazzi winery cultivates its vineyards in the Monferrato Vineyard Landscapes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. The Piedmontese company's Albarossa plantations grow in Olivola, in the province of Alessandria. The vines enjoy a sunny climate and a marly, calcareous, tuff-rich soil. Thanks to the scarce rainfall, the vines' roots descend deep in search of nutrients, giving them strength. The sun allows the b>grapes to ripen evenly, and the fresh air from the nearby Alps helps the grapes grow healthily. To produce this DOC red wine, the Olivola company uses only 100% Albarossa grapes. The harvest is done exclusively by hand, after which the grapes are crushed and destemmed. The pomace is then left to macerate with the musts for about a week in steel tanks heated to 25-28 degrees Celsius. For optimal extraction of color and body, frequent pumping over takes place before proceeding with malolactic fermentation. The red wine obtained is then aged in barriques for 6 months and in barrels for another 12. The final refinement takes place in the bottle for at least 4 months.
