Description
What kind of wine it is
Brancaia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is an organic red wine of remarkable elegance, made from Sangiovese grapes. It stands out for its deep and layered bouquet, where ripe cherry, citron and cocoa emerge, combined with hints of red fruits, aromatic herbs, leather, liquorice and tobacco. On the palate, it reveals a fruity and full-bodied sip, supported by fine tannins that ensure a great structure and a dry, consistent and extremely satisfying taste.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, between the municipalities of Castellina and Radda in Chianti, at an altitude between 230 and 400 metres. The clay soils of Castellina are complemented by the medium-textured, stony soils of Radda, creating an ideal pedoclimatic environment for Sangiovese. The south and south-west exposure ensures proper sunlight, while the continental climate, with its cold winters and hot summers, allows for complete ripening, promoting the perfect aromatic balance.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a careful manual harvest. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in contact with the skins in steel tanks, with maceration lasting about thirteen days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation to stabilise the acidic profile. The wine then undergoes twelve months of ageing, spent between steel and concrete vats. A final rest of several months in the cellar completes its maturation, harmonising its organoleptic characteristics.
History and Curiosities
Since 1981, the Widmer family has been passionately running the Brancaia winery, creating a majestic Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. Under the expert guidance of oenologists Barbara Widmer and Carlo Ferrini, the vineyards flourish in Radda in Chianti at altitudes between 230 and 400 metres, fully respecting organic farming and the Equalitas sustainability certification. The 2021 vintage expresses the true vocation of the Tuscan region, reaching peaks of excellence recognised with the coveted 95 points from James Suckling.
