His six sons Giuseppe, Melchiorre, Alberto, Luigi, Vittorio and Abramo later took over the business. Taking advantage of the wine-growing ferment in central-southern Italy, in 1958 Giuseppe Bonollo decided to open a plant also in Anagni, in the province of Frosinone.
In 1976, Distillerie Bonollo purchased and restructured the distillery in Torrita in the province of Siena. But they looked even further ahead and the company, led by Cavaliere del Lavoro Giuseppe Bonollo, in 1980 began construction of a second plant in Anagni - in the Paduni locality: this production plant was to become the largest in Europe.
In 2007, the Bonollo Distilleries entered the renewable energy sector and after a few years set up Bonollo Energia S.p.a., capable of constructing and managing a plant with a production capacity of 12 MWe for the production of energy from biomasses: about 60% of the latter is represented by the exhausted marc supplied by the distilleries themselves.
The activity of Distillerie Bonollo is a perfect example of a circular economy that focuses on four types of products: distillates, tartaric acid, fertilisers and electricity. It is now the turn of the fourth generation to carry on a tradition with a 100-year history, that of Italian distillation. Read more
