Description

What kind of wine it is

This Franciacorta by Berlucchi is an Extra Brut sparkling wine produced using the Traditional Method. The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir offers a straw yellow glass enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet opens with notes of apple, pear, citrus and bread crust. On the palate, it reveals remarkable freshness and a soft texture, finishing with a pleasant citrusy aftertaste.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Lombardy, within the Franciacorta area. The grapes are selected from the most suitable vineyards spread across the nineteen municipalities of the region. This strict geographical origin ensures an expressive profile aimed at maximum finesse. The deep connection with the land results in a clear glass, perfect as an aperitif or paired with fish dishes, shellfish and white meats.

How it is produced

Harvesting takes place between August and September. After a gentle pressing of the bunches, the first fermentation occurs in steel vats. The blending of the cuvée incorporates reserve wines, combining Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The second fermentation, typical of the Traditional Method, requires ageing on the lees for at least twenty-four months, followed by a short rest after disgorgement, to ensure perfect aromatic integration.

History and Curiosities

Born in 1961 from the vision of Guido Berlucchi and Franco Ziliani, this renowned Franciacorta DOCG embodies the excellence of the Traditional Method. The cuvée, enriched with fine reserve wines, matures for 24 months on the lees, developing a subtle and continuous perlage. On the palate, it reveals magnificent freshness, accompanied by elegant notes of white-fleshed fruit and a pleasant citrus finish. Multi-award-winning and presented in the exclusive 1.5-litre Magnum format, this sparkling wine is the ideal choice to make every toast unforgettable.

The Berlucchi Winery is characterised by its strong bond with the surrounding terroir. For more than 50 years, this historic Italian brand has been synonymous with high-quality sparkling wine not only in Italy but throughout the world. Formed from the encounter between Guido Berlucchi, an established winemaker, and the oenologist Franco Ziliani, Berlucchi is distinguished by the production of Franciacorta DOCG made according to the French method. After a not very successful first production, the Franciacorta Berlucchi that we all know was born with the production of 3,000 labels to which were soon added rosé sparkling wines, the first to be produced in Italy. The Berlucchi sparkling wines are distinguished by their high quality and firm structure and have nothing to envy from the well-known French sparkling wines. With more than 4 million bottles produced each year, the Berlucchi labels are not only invaluable, but are well-calibrated down to the smallest nuance, made to satisfy even the most discerning palate. In 2022 Gambero Rosso named Berlucchi the Winery of the Year 2022. Many more accolades ought to be mentioned: - The Berlucchi '61 Franciacorta Rosé has been included in TOP 100 Wines 2021 by Wine Spectator, as well as being the only Italian Classic Method featured; - The Berlucchi '61 Franciacorta Rosé NV Magnum has been certified "Best in Class" in the "Franciacorta Rosé NV" category by the The Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Competition 2021 (CSWWC), conceived by Tom Stevenson. Xtrawine offers a dedicated section to Franciacorta Berlucchi. Such section is distinguished by a wide variety of bottles made mainly from Chardonnay and belonging to the excellent vintages . In 2023, the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Champions (CSWWC) by Tom Stevenson awarded the following products: - '61 Franciacorta Extra Brut NV: Gold Medal - '61 Franciacorta Rosè NV: Gold Medal - '61 Franciacorta Rosè NV Magnum: Gold Medal - '61 Franciacorta Saten NV: Gold Medal Read more
