Description

Serre di San Pietro is born from one of the most historic vineyards of the Bava family, on the hill of Cadodo in Cocconato. Here the Bava family is been living and cultivating the land for 13 generations. The area surrounding Cocconatoand the panoramic pattern of Serres’s slopes has always had a great tradition in the production of Nebbiolo. That’s why we’ve replanted Nebbiolo grapes at the end of the ‘90s, a decision rewarded by the recognition of the geographical appellation of Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo. The wine has the typical personality and elegance of full-bodied red wines of this territory. Elegance and structure combine perfectly together emphasizing the armoniousfreshness of the best Nebbiolos.

The story of the Bava family begins in Cocconato, a hilltop village in the Monferrato area of Asti. The Bava family has been cultivating vineyards here since the 1600s, and in 1911 Giuseppe Bava opened the first winery, housed inside a building that included a hotel, a restaurant, a ballroom and cellars. The property stood beside the newly built Asti–Chivasso railway, which soon boosted transport and trade toward Turin, multiplying encounters and opportunities.

More than 115 years and six generations have passed since that first harvest. Over time, the finest Bava Barberas have earned recognition in many countries thanks to the consistently high quality of the estate’s production.

Today the winery is led by Piero Bava, grandson of the founder and widely regarded as one of the "Patriarchs of Barbera." Piero carries on the family tradition together with his sons Roberto, Giulio and Paolo, and his grandchildren Francesca and Giorgio: three generations working side by side to offer, across 55 markets worldwide, wines that speak of Piedmont, authenticity and deep respect for the land.

Dozens of menus created by Roberto Bava for the legendary Bava Dinners — gastronomic events held across all five continents — now hang on the winery walls, bearing witness to the creativity and long, vibrant history of the Bava family.
