Description
What kind of wine it is
Aska is a still red wine from Banfi that interprets the Bolgheri region through a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. To the eye, it displays an intense ruby colour enriched with violet highlights. The aromatic profile is clear, characterised by notes of blueberry, blackcurrant and plum jam, accompanied by elegant hints of tobacco and liquorice. On the palate, it reveals a smooth and powerful structure, supported by sweet and elegant tannins that perfectly balance the sip and lead to a long and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
The wine originates from the renowned Bolgheri region, located along the Tuscan coast near Castagneto Carducci. The vineyards stretch between the beaches of the Maremma and the inland hills, benefiting from a climate characterised by a constant marine influence. The cool winds from the coast allow for a slow ripening of the grapes, which is essential for maintaining the right acidity and complexity of aromas. The soils alternate between alluvial gravels and marine sands to calcareous clays and volcanic rock, ensuring water reserves that favour a concentrated yet always balanced style.
How it is produced
Production begins with the manual harvesting of the grape bunches. Vinification continues with temperature-controlled fermentation in steel vats, where the use of pumping over and délestage allows for controlled extraction to preserve the integrity of the primary aromas. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for about ten months in French oak barrels. This period of rest helps to harmoniously integrate the structural components, resulting in a compact texture and a pleasantly rounded taste profile.
