Description

Type of wine

André Clouet’s Brut Champagne is a rigorous expression of Bouzy, a territory classified as Grand Cru. This white wine is born from a meticulous blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, crafted according to the Traditional Method. In the glass, it offers a fine perlage, outlining a technical profile of absolute precision. It is a sparkling wine designed for those who appreciate a well-defined structure and remarkable length on the palate, offering a taste with an intense and creamy style.

Origin

André Clouet’s Champagne comes to life in Bouzy, a prestigious terroir in France. The vineyards sit on limestone and schist soils, characterised by a strong presence of chalk. This geological composition ensures a distinct mineral footprint and great depth. Ageing continues in the atmospheric underground tunnels carved into the chalk. From this viticultural context comes a Grand Cru capable of expressing maximum territorial precision and a long, taut, and expressive finish.

Production

After pressing carried out with an ancient press, the must rests in truncated conical steel tanks. The Traditional Method involves secondary fermentation in the bottle with ageing for at least three years on the lees and constant riddling. In the glass, the wine displays a golden colour with coppery highlights. The olfactory profile opens with clear aromas of apple and pear, interwoven with mineral, smoky, and balsamic hints. The palate proves powerful, supported by a satisfying and persistent texture.

History and interesting facts

Originating in Bouzy and hailing from prestigious Grand Cru terroirs, the 2020 Vintage Brut Champagne by André Clouet combines history and excellence. Its production masterfully blends tradition and innovation: the must, extracted using an ancient press, is collected in modern stainless steel tanks. The elegance of this Traditional Method is refined through ageing for at least three years in centuries-old chalk cellars, accompanied by constant riddling.

The Clouet family is a one of winemakers whose origins, as they say, "get lost in the mists of time." Its founder was a printer in the Versailles court of Louis XV and for several generations, their descendants continued this work. The peculiar style "Ancien Régime" on their labels is a tribute to the founder of the house.

It took more than two centuries and several generations of Clouet to get plots of vines in the terroir of Bouzy, which remain in the hands of the family of its founder. Bouzy is situated in the Southern part of the Mountain of Reims. The 9 hectares are classified as 100% Grand Cru. Only 17 of the 300 existing villages benefit from the status of Grand Cru, Bouzy being one of them. Lovingly tended vines ripen perfectly Bouzy pinot noir, one of the world's most complex strains. There is 8,000 feet per acre and soils are cool with calcareous clay.
