Description

What type of wine it is

Albino Rocca's Barbaresco Ronchi is a Piedmontese still red wine of great depth, an expression of one of the most prestigious wine-growing areas. Recognised within the Barbaresco denomination, this artisanal wine reflects a complex and powerful character, combined with great elegance. On the palate, it presents an excellent structure, driven by a vibrant freshness and a texture of dense tannins. The finish is long, concentrated, and markedly savoury and mineral.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Piedmont, within the historic Ronchi Geographical Mention, an area deeply rooted in the winery's history. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 240 metres above sea level, benefiting from an excellent South-East exposure that captures the morning sun. The vines, ranging in age between fifty and seventy years, are rooted in a calcareous-clay soil crisscrossed by distinctive tuffaceous veins, characteristics that give the wine its specific territorial identity.

How it is produced

The production process aims to enhance the concentration of the old vines through careful work in the cellar. Ageing in Austrian and German oak barrels lasts for approximately two years, allowing the organoleptic structure to evolve and stabilise. This rest in wood defines intense fruity and balsamic aromas, among which notes of cherry, wild strawberry, dried flowers, humus, cinchona, and juniper delicately emerge.

History and interesting facts

The historical Barbaresco from the Albino Rocca winery is a label deeply rooted in the family’s heritage. Created from old vines between fifty and seventy years old, it originates in the Ronchi Geographical Mention, which faces the morning sun and where the company boasts many vineyards. Among the production curiosities, the two-year ageing in unusual German and Austrian oak barrels stands out. Finally, the wine is kept in the traditional Albeisa bottle in dark glass with embossed lettering, fully confirming its immense authenticity and Piedmontese tradition.

Our history starts in the mid 1940’s when Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo started in the wine business initially selling grapes from family vineyards and later making his own wine that was sold in demijohn.

Thanks to the inheritance of some of our most precious vineyards in the 1960’s our grandfather was able to start what is now our winery Albino Rocca. Albino’s hard work and his strong support of our father Angelo Rocca laid the foundation that created a family winemaking tradition that has grown internationally over the years.

Our history has been built together, year by year. First through the gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto and Barbera in addition to our continuous effort to evolve the quality of our Barbaresco – which starts in the vineyards and continues in the cellar.
