Description
David, Lord Elcho, the oldest of the children of the 5th Earl of Wemyss, was one of the greatest supporters of Prince Charles during the Jacobite revolt of 1745 and for his significant role he was crowned colonel among the Prince's guards; he remained with the latter until his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 and was then forced into exile in France.
