Description
What kind of wine is it
Villa Antinori Toscana Rosso is a still red wine that expresses the soul of the region through a structured blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. The bouquet reveals notes of wild berries and plum, intertwined with hints of toasted hazelnuts, spices and vanilla. On the palate, it displays a full and rounded body, supported by soft and velvety tannins that lead to a long and savoury finish, ideal paired with flavourful first courses, pork, game and cheeses.
Where does it come from
It originates in Tuscany, in the historic Chianti area, from grapes grown on the Antinori family estates. The vines thrive on sandy and gypsum-rich soils, essential elements for promoting a clean flavour profile and a pronounced tannic definition. Originally created to enhance the ageing potential of local reds, this wine is a cornerstone of the family's winemaking history, faithfully reflecting the character of the region with great quality standards.
How is it produced
After destemming and a gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Maceration on the skins lasts for about twelve days, with temperatures managed according to each variety to preserve their best aromatic components. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for about a year in oak barrels from France, Hungary and America. The process concludes with a further period of bottle ageing, which ensures the wine has remarkable evolutionary potential.
History and Curiosities
Created in 1928 from the intuition of Marquis Niccolò, Villa Antinori was the first Chianti Classico designed for ageing. In 2001, it underwent a prestigious evolution, becoming a Toscana IGT, while retaining the historic design of the original label. This wine is produced exclusively from grapes grown on the family estates, skilfully combining the value of historic tradition with ongoing oenological experimentation. An iconic red that fully embodies the centuries-old dedication and exceptional quality guaranteed by the expertise of the Marchesi Antinori.

The Antinori family’s first encounter with wine dates back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Wine Merchants to make the best use of the family’s country properties in Valdarno, around Florence.
However, it was not until the 16th century that banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori made the wine from his estates famous in Italy and abroad, travelling from Lyons to Flanders, and from Spain to Algiers.
Wine was to remain the family’s passion and main business activity, so much so that in 1898 the "Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori" was created by brothers Lodovico and Piero, the sons of Marchese Niccolò – a direct descendent of that other Niccolò who purchased Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and poured his efforts into publicising Tuscan wines around the world and creating fine quality products. For 26 generations the Antinori family have continued to make history.
In 2023, at the beginning of February, Villa Antinori Toscana IGT 2019 was named the third wine in the world, the only Italian wine, in Wine Specator's Top 10 Values 2022: the list of the 10 wines that according to the American magazine represent world excellence in terms of value for money.
