Description
What kind of wine it is
Villa Antinori Toscana Rosso is a still red wine that expresses the authentic identity of the Tuscan region. Born from a careful blend of grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, it presents a deep ruby red colour. The bouquet is intense and complex, characterised by notes of black blueberry and plum enriched with hints of toasted hazelnuts, spices and vanilla. On the palate, it is rounded and full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a savoury, persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of Tuscany and enhances the unique microclimate of this historic Italian wine region. Produced by Antinori, the project began in 1928 with the aim of highlighting the ageing potential of the local grapes. As an expression of the Toscana denomination, the wine embodies a deep connection with its land. The meticulous care of the vineyards aims to enhance an authentic local oenological character, offering a faithful interpretation of its place of origin and confirming the producer's strong agricultural vocation.
How it is produced
The production process begins with gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Temperatures are precisely controlled to optimise aromatic and polyphenolic extraction: up to 28°C for Sangiovese, Cabernet and Petit Verdot, while for Syrah and Merlot they do not exceed 25°C. After maceration on the skins and subsequent malolactic fermentation, maturation continues in oak barrels of French, Hungarian and American origin. This ageing process defines the structure and potential for evolution, harmonising the fruity aromas with elegant spicy nuances.
History and Curiosities
Created in 1928 to highlight its ageing potential, this red wine from the Marchesi Antinori embodies a story that began as far back as 1385. Since 2001, it has evolved into the prestigious Toscana IGT, while retaining its iconic label. The illustration of Villa del Cigliano celebrates the strong connection with the region, positioning itself as an ideal response to the great French châteaux. Masterfully combining constant experimentation with a solid family tradition, this bottle captivates the most refined palates, earning accolades of excellence including 98/100 from Decanter.

The Antinori family’s first encounter with wine dates back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Wine Merchants to make the best use of the family’s country properties in Valdarno, around Florence.
However, it was not until the 16th century that banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori made the wine from his estates famous in Italy and abroad, travelling from Lyons to Flanders, and from Spain to Algiers.
Wine was to remain the family’s passion and main business activity, so much so that in 1898 the "Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori" was created by brothers Lodovico and Piero, the sons of Marchese Niccolò – a direct descendent of that other Niccolò who purchased Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and poured his efforts into publicising Tuscan wines around the world and creating fine quality products. For 26 generations the Antinori family have continued to make history.
In 2023, at the beginning of February, Villa Antinori Toscana IGT 2019 was named the third wine in the world, the only Italian wine, in Wine Specator's Top 10 Values 2022: the list of the 10 wines that according to the American magazine represent world excellence in terms of value for money.
