Description
What kind of wine it is
Vieris Sauvignon Blanc by Vie di Romans is a still white wine that rigorously interprets the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. As an expression of the Friuli Isonzo denomination, this wine enhances the characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc, presenting itself with an intense, brilliant golden yellow colour. The bouquet is characterised by floral and fruity notes of papaya and ripe peach, enriched by a persistent hint of ginger. On the palate, it is fresh and harmonious, with subtle nuances from the barrels that balance the exotic fruit notes.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Mariano del Friuli, at the heart of the renowned Rive Alte cru, cultivated with dedication by Vie di Romans. The terroir is distinguished by a shallow soil, rich in stones and with a silty-sandy component of a distinctive reddish colour, indicating a significant presence of iron and aluminium oxides. This substrate, highly draining and with a low water retention capacity, promotes an ideal vegetative balance, giving the wine a precise territorial identity and a marked capacity for ageing over time.
How it is produced
Production begins in September with the destemming and crushing of the bunches, followed by a cold skin maceration to preserve the integrity of the aromatic profile. After clarification, the must ferments at a controlled temperature for twenty-five days; malolactic fermentation is not carried out to maintain the natural freshness. The structure of the wine is defined through ageing on the lees for eight months, followed by a final maturation of equal duration, a process that ensures the wine has great consistency and a clean taste.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1900 in Mariano del Friuli, the Vie di Romans winery has been producing this wine from the vineyard of the same name, which boasts over twenty years of history. The Vieris Sauvignon Blanc embodies the excellence of the Friuli Isonzo DOC, drawing character from reddish soils rich in stones and iron. The grapes, mainly from French clones, undergo a delicate cold maceration. The slow fermentation and careful ageing on the lees for eight months, followed by a period of rest in the bottle, give the wine extraordinary longevity and alluring notes of exotic fruit.
