Description
What kind of wine it is
Alma di Valpanera is a still red wine that faithfully embodies the character of the Friuli Aquileia denomination. This structured red is born from a harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes. To enhance its aromatic concentration, some of the grape bunches are left to wither directly on the vine. On the palate, it presents a full and enveloping body, balanced by remarkable freshness, while the bouquet is deep, characterised by distinct notes of black pepper and liquorice, enriched by hints of eucalyptus that precede a pleasant fresh and balsamic finish.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the vineyards cultivated at the estates of Scodovacca and Villa Vicentina. In this region, the clay composition of the soils gives the sip a compact texture and the solid structure needed to withstand prolonged ageing. The Friuli Aquileia area masterfully enhances the meeting of international and native varieties. To ensure optimal ripening, the harvest at different times takes place from the second half of September to mid-October, guaranteeing the full expression of the fruit of each grape variety.
How it is produced
The production process begins with the separate vinification of the different varieties and fermentation in steel tanks. The use of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes left to wither on the vine enriches the final blend, increasing its intensity and depth of flavour. After blending, the wine undergoes twenty-four months of ageing resting in French oak barriques and large casks. Before being released on the market, the wine completes its evolution with a six-month rest in the bottle, an essential step to perfectly integrate the spicy nuances.
History and Curiosities
Originating from the prestigious vineyards of Scodovacca and Villa Vicentina, Valpanera Alma 2021 is an outstanding wine from the Friuli Aquileia DOC, awarded 95 points by Luca Maroni. This elegant red is created from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a distinctive touch of Refosco, 10% of which is left to wither on the vine to enhance its aromatic concentration. The slow ageing process of 24 months in French oak gives this enveloping Riserva a majestic structure, capable of delighting the palate with a fresh and balsamic finish rich in spicy notes.

Friuli is renowned for its esteemed white wines, attributed to several key factors: The region’s UNIQUE MICROCLIMATE, influenced by the Alps, provides warm days and cool nights, crucial for preserving grape acidity and freshness. This balance allows complex flavors to develop, resulting in vibrant, nuanced wines. The MINERAL RICH MARL AND SANDSTONE MICRO SOIL add distinct mineral notes. Friuli winemakers, with generations of expertise, blend traditional techniques with
modern innovations to elevate their wines. Friuli wines are celebrated for their AROMATIC PROFILES featuring citrus, stone fruits, and floral undertones, pairing beautifully with various dishes and loved by wine enthusiasts worldwide.
Between the sea and the Alpine snow‑capped mountains lies a narrow cultivable strip of land, shaped by alternating layers of clay, lime, and sandstone. This region offers a rare harmony between the sweetness of marine clay and the mineral
toughness of the Isonzo gravels. A natural equilibrium that enhances the character of our grape varieties and gives life to wines of exceptional quality. And it is precisely here that our winery is located. Read more
