Description

What kind of wine it is

Valiano 6.38 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is an organic red wine produced by Valiano. This elegant blend harmonises Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a dry and well-bodied sip. On the nose, complex notes of wild berries, aromatic herbs, delicate spices, ginger and orange zest emerge. On the palate, it impresses with its dense and juicy tannic structure, balanced by a pleasant freshness. The finish is long and clean, revealing hints of black pepper and bitter cocoa, giving depth and persistence.

Where it comes from

The wine comes from Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the heart of Chianti Classico. The organic vineyards, situated at an altitude of around 350 metres with a south-west exposure, ensure optimal ripening of the grapes. The soil composition in the cru Poggio Teo, characterised by clay, stones, sand and rocks, gives the wine remarkable fruit precision and a solid structure. Every stage of viticulture is managed with a focus on environmental sustainability.

How it is produced

Following manual harvesting, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are picked at the beginning of September, while Sangiovese is harvested in October. The grapes are destemmed, gently pressed and vinified separately. Maceration on the skins lasts for about fifteen days, with pumping over and délestage for optimal extraction, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Ageing lasts eighteen months: the Sangiovese matures in French oak barrels, while the other grapes also rest in wooden barrels. A further period in the bottle allows the wine to reach its full expressive harmony.

History and Curiosities

The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 6.38 from Fattoria di Valiano takes its name from the size of the original vineyard in Castelnuovo Berardenga. This organic red wine is made from hand-picked grapes and aged for eighteen months in fine oak. The 2021 vintage, awarded 93 points by James Suckling, offers a structured glass capable of evolving over time. Thanks to the guidance of oenologist Pasquale Presutto, it is ideal for accompanying rich and flavourful dishes.

Fattoria di Valiano is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico production area, in the municipality of Castelnovo Berardenga, a few steps from Siena. From careful historical research we learn that Valiano derives from the name of an ancient Roman condottiero, who at the time of the Gallic Wars, was assigned, according to the dictates of the Lex Julia, these lands for his particular merits on the battlefield.

Valiano covers a total area of 230 hectares, 75 of which are vineyards. The vineyards are located at an average height of 350 metres above sea level, with a predominantly South-Western exposure. The soil is composed of clay and skeleton, except for the cru Poggio Teo where sand and skeleton dominate the scene.
