Description
What kind of wine it is
Vajra Freisa Kyè Langhe Rosso is an organic still wine that expresses the energy of an ancient Piedmontese grape variety, Freisa. With a translucent garnet colour, it offers a bouquet rich in rose petals, wild strawberries and cherries in spirit, combined with delicate hints of white pepper and cloves. On the palate, it reveals itself as a juicy and structured wine, characterised by fine and enveloping tannins that provide depth and freshness, finishing with a pleasantly persistent aftertaste. It is ideal paired with game meats and mature cheeses, showing its best after an hour of decanting.
Where it comes from
This label originates in Piedmont, within the renowned Langhe area. The Vajra winery cultivates its vines at the highest point of the Barolo municipality, managing the vineyards with sustainable practices for over fifty years. The Freisa grapes come from historic plots characterised by alluvial soils rich in minerals, which impart great vibrancy to the sip. The name Kyè means “who is it?”, evoking the surprise towards this native grape variety genetically related to Nebbiolo, once forgotten and now a symbol of profound respect for the land.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place at the end of September through a rigorous triple manual selection: directly in the vineyard, on sorting tables and finally berry by berry after delicate destemming. The vinification involves a slow fermentation, followed by a spontaneous malolactic fermentation that provides stability and aromatic cleanliness. The ageing lasts for twenty-six months and takes place mainly in large Slavonian oak barrels, a long rest in wood that softens the natural vigour of the grape variety and ensures remarkable ageing potential.
