Description
What kind of wine it is
Palazzi by Tenuta di Trinoro is a still red wine from Tuscany. Made exclusively from Merlot grapes, it stands out for its deep, bright ruby colour. The bouquet is broad and compact, characterised by notes of red fruits, plum, white truffle, spices and tobacco. On the palate, it reveals a full body and silky tannins of great finesse, which unveil their complexity as the minutes pass. Hints of raspberry jam lead to a long and persistent finish. Served after adequate aeration, it pairs beautifully with game, wild boar stews and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the hills of Sarteano, at an altitude between 450 and 600 metres. The area is distinguished by its clay-limestone and gravelly soils, enriched by selected parcels of blue clay, which are essential for giving the wine significant structure. Vineyard management is based on a high-density planting system with ten thousand vines per hectare, ensuring a very low yield per plant. This approach encourages a marked aromatic concentration in the grapes, translating the landscape's unique features into a glass with a clear territorial identity.
How it is produced
After a careful autumn harvest, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about two weeks. This is followed by a maturation period of eight months in new French oak barrels, an essential step for defining and integrating the nuances of leather and spices. The evolution continues with almost a year of ageing in concrete vats. This final stage naturally stabilises the wine and rounds out its tannic texture, preserving its freshness and preparing it perfectly for cellaring.

The Founder, Andrea Franchetti acquired the property in the 1980s and in the beginning of the 1990s started planting his first vines. The most important lesson he gleaned from a stint in Bordeaux was the crucial role played by terroir. He saw, in the rough woodland that would become Trinoro,clay-limestone and gravel soils reminiscent of those in Saint-Émilion. Only select parcels were suitable for vine-growing, amid a sea of blue clay, and those he cleared by hand and planted in the style of the Bordelais: high-density, meter-by-meter plantings, with cuttings brought over from some of the region’s great estates.
