Description
Type of wine
Gattinara Travaglini is an elegant Piedmontese still red wine that perfectly expresses the characteristics of Nebbiolo. This prestigious label, classified under the Gattinara denomination, stands out for its strong territorial identity. On the nose, it reveals an intense and finely mineral aromatic profile, with clear notes of small red fruits, raspberry and redcurrant, enhanced by spicy and earthy nuances. On the palate, it is savoury, fresh and solidly structured, characterised by soft and well-integrated tannins. It is ideal for pairing with braised meats, game and mature cheeses.
Origin
The grapes used for this wine grow in the renowned area of Gattinara, in the province of Vercelli, in Piedmont. The vineyards enjoy a favourable altitude, between 320 and 420 metres above sea level, with excellent south and south-west exposure. The most distinctive feature of this terroir is the nature of the rocky volcanic soil, which stands out for the abundant presence of iron minerals. This gives the earth its typical reddish hue and imparts ferrous echoes to the wine. The foothills climate offers a thermal inversion that ensures excellent ventilation.
How it is produced
The winemaking process begins with a careful harvest, which usually takes place during the first ten days of October. After selecting the bunches, fermentation in stainless steel takes place at a controlled temperature, a stage that lasts for about fifteen days and aims to preserve the clarity of the fruit. Once this process is complete, the wine undergoes a long ageing period of four years. Maturation takes place mainly in large Slavonian oak barrels, accompanied in small part by the use of smaller wooden casks. The process concludes with three months of bottle ageing.
