Description
What kind of wine it is
Selida by Cantina Tramin is a still white wine with controlled designation of origin, made from Gewürztraminer grapes from Alto Adige. It is characterised by a straw yellow colour with golden highlights and a pronounced aromatic complexity. On the nose, it releases enveloping scents of rose petals, lily and spicy white flowers, combined with notes of dried herbs and exotic fruits such as mango and passion fruit. On the palate, it offers a deep structure, supported by a vibrant freshness and a long finish, enhanced by fermentation and ageing in steel. This natural balance of flavours makes it ideal to pair with spicy dishes from oriental cuisine, as well as enhancing seafood starters, shellfish, white meats, smoked foods and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This label originates from the sunny vineyards of the Termeno area, situated between three hundred and five hundred metres above sea level with excellent south-east exposure. The name comes from an old local term meaning a small farm. The vines grow on limestone soil with a marked clay and gravel component, essential for defining the character of the grapes. Crucial to the development of Gewürztraminer is the climate, characterised by significant temperature variations. The days, tempered by Mediterranean influences, alternate with nights cooled by Alpine winds, creating the ideal microclimate to preserve acidity and enrich the aromatic bouquet.
How it is produced
Production involves a meticulous manual harvest, during which the grapes are placed in small containers to protect their integrity. Once in the winery, the harvest undergoes a brief maceration on the skins followed by gentle pressing. The temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, a technical choice aimed at preserving the purity of the varietal aromas. The process is completed with ageing in steel for a minimum of six months, a period that allows the wine to consolidate its sensory structure before being tasted.
History and Curiosities
The term Selida comes from the local dialect and means "small farm", a tribute to the centuries-old tradition of small landowners. Included in the Classics line of Cantina Tramin, this wine is the result of meticulous manual harvesting which, in the 2025 vintage, benefited from an early harvest, giving it a particularly fresh and fruity profile. The consistent quality excellence of this label is demonstrated by numerous international awards, with outstanding scores awarded over the years by renowned critics such as James Suckling and Robert Parker.
