Description

What kind of wine it is

Tramin Sauvignon is a still white wine produced by Cantina Tramin in Alto Adige. Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, it displays a yellow colour with greenish highlights. The bouquet is intense and floral, defined by notes of elderflower and nettle with hints of gooseberry. On the palate, it offers a vibrant savouriness and a pleasant creaminess, balanced by a freshness that lingers on the finish. Thanks to its elegant structure, it enhances seafood dishes, oysters, asparagus and refined cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the micro-areas of Termeno and Montagna, in the Alto Adige region. The vineyards are situated between 350 and 550 metres above sea level on calcareous soil with a clay and gravel composition. The microclimate is characterised by significant temperature variations, with warm, Mediterranean-style days and nights cooled by mountain breezes. This environment encourages a slow ripening of the grapes, imparting excellent gustatory tension and a precise varietal identity to the wine.

How it is produced

Cantina Tramin practises sustainable viticulture that respects natural rhythms. Manual harvesting in small containers ensures the integrity of the bunches, which are immediately subjected to gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, avoiding malolactic fermentation. This technical process, completed by careful maturation in steel, preserves the acidity and gives the wine a pronounced original freshness and a clear aromatic purity.

History and Curiosities

Since 1898, Cantina Tramin has produced this renowned Sauvignon Alto Adige DOC, a refined white wine originating from the renowned terroirs of Termeno and Montagna. The company adopts a strict policy of sustainable viticulture, avoiding the use of herbicides in certain vineyards to allow the grapes to mature slowly, fully respecting natural rhythms. The excellent 2024 vintage further consolidates the prestige of the winery, boasting an impressive score of 92/100 awarded by James Suckling.

In a time of hardship for Alto Adige’s wine producers, Christian Schrott, parish priest of Tramin and later Member of the Austrian Parliament, founded our cooperative in 1898 in order to protect the livelihood and future of the wine producers from this mountain area. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has become one of Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives and an example recognized all over the world.

Today, we are 160 families tending approximately 270 hectares of vineyards. We pride ourselves on the fact that each bottle is the quintessence of our philosophy of life and work: accuracy, commitment, trust and creativity.
