Description

What kind of wine it is

The Tramin Chardonnay from Cantina Tramin expresses a harmonious balance between freshness and softness. On the nose, it reveals a delicately fruity aroma with hints of yellow apple, pear, pineapple and citrus, complemented by floral notes and a slight buttery touch. On the palate, it stands out for its dry and mineral finish, lively and with good persistence. Ideal as an aperitif, it pairs perfectly with vegetarian dishes, fresh soft cheeses and fish-based recipes. The optimal serving temperature is between 10 and 12 °C.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in Alto Adige, in the areas of Ora, Termeno and Egna. The hillside vineyards are located at the foot of majestic mountain ranges, at an altitude ranging from 240 to 500 metres. The Chardonnay vines sink their roots into soils characterised by a calcareous and gravelly matrix, with significant presences of porphyry. The area's climate is marked by a strong temperature range, where Mediterranean daytime warmth meets the cool night currents from the mountains, favouring an extraordinary aromatic richness.

How it is produced

The process begins with a careful manual harvest in small containers, essential to ensure the integrity of the fruit. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 19 °C. To provide structure and roundness, the wine undergoes a partial malolactic fermentation. This is followed by careful maturation in steel in small containers, a choice that allows the purity and clear varietal expression of the Chardonnay to be preserved.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1898, Cantina Tramin tells the story of the soul of the South Tyrolean mountains through the dedication of 300 winegrowers. The Alto Adige DOC Chardonnay originates from calcareous and gravelly soils, where significant temperature variations bestow a refined complexity upon the grapes. The meticulous manual harvest and fermentation in steel at 19°C preserve its delicate citrus notes intact. Produced under the guidance of oenologist Willi Stürz, this label offers an unmistakable savoury and mineral finish, making it the ideal choice to enhance refined fish dishes.

In a time of hardship for Alto Adige’s wine producers, Christian Schrott, parish priest of Tramin and later Member of the Austrian Parliament, founded our cooperative in 1898 in order to protect the livelihood and future of the wine producers from this mountain area. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has become one of Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives and an example recognized all over the world.

Today, we are 160 families tending approximately 270 hectares of vineyards. We pride ourselves on the fact that each bottle is the quintessence of our philosophy of life and work: accuracy, commitment, trust and creativity.
