Description
What kind of wine it is
Torre Rosazza Friuli Colli Orientali Sauvignon is a still white wine from the Colli Orientali del Friuli area. Made from Sauvignon grapes, it displays a pale straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The bouquet is intense and varied, combining the scents of linden and elderflower with lively citrus notes of grapefruit. On the palate, it is distinctly aromatic, refreshing and well-structured. The sip finishes with a long-lasting finish, enhanced by an intriguing mineral note. It is ideal paired with shellfish, asparagus-based dishes and blue cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, on the splendid hills of Rosazzo. The Torre Rosazza winery boasts a deep-rooted history in this area renowned for quality viticulture. The vineyards are situated at an altitude between 70 and 160 metres and are trained using the Guyot system. The distinctive feature of the area is the presence of ponca, a particular soil formed by alternating layers of clay marl and sandstone. This Eocene-origin matrix nourishes the vines deeply, imparting an unmistakable identity and a pleasant savouriness that accompanies the entire tasting experience.
How it is produced
The cellar process begins with careful manual harvesting of the grape bunches. To preserve the aromatic richness of the variety, the grapes undergo a brief cryomaceration followed by gentle pressing. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at strictly controlled temperatures. Afterwards, the wine rests on the lees for about six months. The choice to mature exclusively in steel ensures perfect aromatic clarity, enhancing the natural freshness of the fruit and giving the sip great balance.
History and Curiosities
The Torre Rosazza estate traces its roots back to the seventeenth century, preserving a historic villa in Oleis di Manzano, dominated by the iconic medieval tower. Since 1972, the company has enhanced the ancient winemaking tradition of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, spreading across the hills of Rosazzo. This centuries-old connection with Friulian identity is reflected in the outstanding quality of its wines; confirming this excellence, the 2023 vintage received a score of 89/100 from the critic James Suckling, as well as a prestigious mention in an industry guide.

In the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and especially in Torre Rosazza, the growing of grapevines has a very ancient history. Already known in Roman times, grapes were also grown in the Middle Ages, along with other crops such as olives and grains. In those years, wine was a commodity or a bargaining chip that demonstrated a family’s wealth.
Noble elegance. The history of Torre Rosazza has been tied to the Antonini family, part of the Udine nobility, since the 1600s. Already the lords of the agricultural estate, the Antonini restored the medieval tower and built the villa that became their home in the hills: Turris Rosacea.
After the Antonini, Torre Rosazza passed to the De Marchi family. But more than any other event, the biggest mark on its history was left by the two World Wars. After the Battle of Caporetto, the estate came under Austrian control before returning to Italy at the end of the war. During the World War II it was the scene of fighting between the German occupation army and the Italian Resistance. Read more
