Description
What kind of wine it is
Etna Rosato by Tornatore is a still wine that authentically represents Nerello Mascalese. Produced in the Etna region, it stands out in the glass for its cherry-pink colour enriched with elegant antique pink hues. The bouquet offers clear fruity aromas, with notes of white mulberries, yellow melon and small wild berries. On the palate, it reveals a dry style, offering a full and fresh sip, supported by a pronounced mineral note that ensures long persistence and excellent potential for ageing over time.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Sicily, on the northern slope of the volcano, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. This area of Etna is characterised by deep volcanic soils and marked temperature variations between day and night, fundamental elements that give the wine aromatic precision and freshness on the palate. The vineyards, cultivated using the espalier system and yielding 70 quintals per hectare, allow for an ideal concentration of aromas. Tornatore has been operating in this area since 1865, enhancing the unique features of a mountain terroir through careful agronomic management.
How it is produced
The manual harvest takes place between the second and third ten days of October, using small crates to preserve the integrity of the bunches. After a swift transfer to the winery and meticulous selection, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The must ferments at a controlled temperature of 15-16 °C and, subsequently, the wine rests on the fine lees for about three months. This is followed by maturation in steel for three months and a further period of bottle ageing, steps designed to enhance the wine’s gustatory tension and aromatic clarity.
