Description
What kind of wine it is
Etna Rosso San Lorenzo from Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a still red wine made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes. This expression stands out for its solid structure and enveloping tannins. In the glass, it reveals a pale ruby colour with elegant mahogany highlights. The bouquet is deep, characterised by a clear dark fruit interwoven with notes of pepper and liquorice. On the palate, it reveals hints of cocoa and smoky nuances, leading to a very long finish that showcases the complexity of the terroir.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in the Contrada San Lorenzo on the northern slope of Etna, between 700 and 850 metres above sea level, benefiting from a cool climate and marked temperature variations between day and night. The roots sink into soil composed of volcanic ash with black pumice and magmatic rock. This specific composition gives the wine a compact and vibrant flavour profile. The territorial identity is expressed through these volcanic soils, imparting a taut and mineral character, ideal for accompanying roast meats and mature cheeses.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place at the beginning of October with a low yield to ensure maximum quality. The alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature takes place in wood, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Ageing continues for 16-18 months in French oak barrels, with the use of some new wood. Finally, the wine rests for a period in steel, an essential step to stabilise the structure and harmonise the complex aromatic nuances before release to the market.
