Description

What kind of wine it is

Etna Bianco Montalto Cuvee delle Vigne Niche is a still white wine of great depth, crafted by Tenuta delle Terre Nere. Made from Carricante grapes, it offers an ideal balance between intensity and liveliness. This Etna label reveals on the nose a complex floral and spicy profile that precedes a full, fresh sip with a solid structure. The wine boasts an excellent capacity for ageing in the bottle, making it perfect for those who appreciate the development of aromas over time.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from vineyards cultivated on the northern slopes of Etna, in the municipalities of Randazzo, Castiglione di Sicilia, Biancavilla and Milo. Situated between 600 and 900 metres above sea level, the vines benefit from varied exposures and marked mountain temperature variations, which give the fruit finesse and excellent acidity. The volcanic soils impart a pronounced savouriness to the palate, enhanced by the traditional bush-trained cultivation. The entire production process strictly follows the principles of organic farming.

How it is produced

The early October harvest precedes a meticulous vinification, which begins with a cold maceration between 8 and 10°C. After pressing and static decantation, the must undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Maturation in wood lasts ten months, shaping the body of the wine before a further bottle ageing of eight months. The result is a straw yellow glass with golden reflections that, on the palate, is taut, full and supported by a vibrant savouriness.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 2002 on the northern slope of the volcano, Tenuta delle Terre Nere has been a certified organic excellence since 2010. This fascinating wine is produced from vines aged between 25 and 60 years, cultivated using the traditional bush vine method on fertile volcanic soils at altitudes between 600 and 900 metres. Under the guidance of oenologist Calogero Statella, the early October harvest gathers grapes that express in every glass all the strength, elegance, and unmistakable identity of a Sicilian terroir enhanced by sustainable practices.

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is located on the northern slope of the Etna volcano. The wines are produced from vineyards in three crus: Guardiola, Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo. The extremely special soil and climate conditions, together with the high altitude, make these wines similar to Burgundy or Barolo. Since the 2004 vintage, the company has been self-sufficient, and the grapes are vinified in the new cellars. The winery has been converting to organic farming since 2007. It has been officially certified since the 2010 vintage. Read more
